Armando is a great guy, BUT he no longer sells retail, SO you're going to be paying a premium to the lfs so 5 different stores, 5 different prices. David (dvups1) is going to give you an excellent tank, at a much better price (my opinion) and the quality is the same. (also my opinion) I'm on my third David tank, he is a true craftsman who pays great attention to detail. Best of luck.

Check your prices i have heard dvups1 has made great tanks. For your best price on a planet aquarium tank go to aquarium boutique in dallas. They are located a couple miles from planet aquariums and he has the best prices . speak to yuki.

I had a tank built last month and I am very happy with it. I contacted several builders and shops, and the most responsive people were dvups1 and Rodney from My Exotic Fish , who is a Planet Aquariums dealer. I had a few builders/shops that didn't respond at all and a few others that responded a week or more too late (after my order was already placed). I also got a quote from glasscages.com. It was cheap, and they responded very quickly, but the bad reviews online scared me.

In the end, it turned out that dvups1 could not handle a tank as large as I needed. I went with a Planet Aquariums tank through Rodney and have no regrets. He is in the process of setting up a new website, but for now you can reach him at fishguy.rodney@gmail.com or 469-682-8841. I don't think you would be disappointed with the quality or customer service from either of them.

I too just got a tank made from Planet Aquariums through Rodney. The tank turned out great except for a few scratches in the front and the holes were drilled differently than what I wanted. Beside that, the tank is built very nicely.
I checked with all the lfs and they are either too high or just don't even bother calling you back.
Here's my build thread: viewtopic.php?f=100&t=97049

Scratches and wrong holes are acceptable?

I had a similar issue with Planet Aquarium. Dimensions came out different than what i requested, and i had to clean up excess silicon on the tank that i think should have been done by the builder. The dimensions were only off about 1/2" to 3/4", but on a pico an every dimension off that much, it reduced the volume by 25% of what i wanted.

Rodney was great about it though, so no regrets ordering from him, but when i get another tank made it may not be by planet aquarium.

Had this exact same problem when trying to get a quote for a tank with planet aquarium at lfs... at the end went to pet city and thats where i got my custom tank from. Great tank and excellent price compared to other builders... Another +1 for planet aquarium here.

It's 2 small scratches and of course it's not acceptable. But since I already pick up the tank, I don't think there are much they can do. And I'm not the type that like to complain too much. As for the hole, it wasn't the size that is wrong. They just drill the return on the left instead of right. Have to change the plumbing layout around a bit, but it's do-able.
I sent him some pictures of the scratches, but never got a response and I've been too busy to check up on that.

Not sure how big you are doing, but you might check out reef savvy, they put out some awesome tanks

Update: I finished my plumping and decided to wipe down the tank today. I found more scratches, some are on the ouside but most are from the inside of the tank. Originally, I thought they were just dirty marks since I wiped a few that looked scatches with my finger and it went away. Well there are alot of small scrapes/scratches found. Not those 1 line scratch you typically see when you run something sharp over the glass. Look like they were using a razor blade to clean the silicon and scraped it. The tank have not been filled or anything has been placed in it. I was working on the plumping and that's only in the overflow which is on the back of the tank so I'm sure I didn't accidentally did that.
Anyways, if you decided to go with them, make sure you check the tank very carefully before taking it home. Sorry, for a long post.
