need 5 gallons of water from your tank.

Hello,

I live in McKinney and i am setting up a nano cube in my daughters class. I need 5 gallons of water from your tank to help decrease the cycle time. I am already using live sand and rock, and the water is just an extra bonus. I am in Mckinney and can pick it up. If you are in McKinney and can help me let me know.

thanks

Dan

I am in Lucas and have water ready to do a water change. I can give 5 gallons of the tank water. Are you picking it up? Do you have a container? When do you need it?

I live in Mckinney (Craig Ranch) and will probably be doing a water change sunday. Usally bump 60 gallons down my drive way i can save 5 gallons if you would like. Shoot me a pm if you want it.

Nitrifying bacteria does not live in the water column. Adding water from another system will not help your cycle time at all. The best thing would be to get some existing rock, sand or filter media (bio balls for example) from an existing system.

^^ and the pH might be low and the water could have hi solids, or other bad juju.
+1 for some fresh water. At 5gal u only need like 1 cup of sea salt and a 5 gal thing of water from sams for 4.88 I got some yesterday :).

I agree, there is no reason to use used tank water. The rock and sand are what will cause the cycle, or not. Used water will not speed up the process.

If you want to avoid a cycle and are purchasing (using) cured LR, you can essentially eliminate the cycle at all. Whether or not one occurs is based upon how you set up the tank. If you have or bought cured live rock that is constantly submerged, it won't cycle when placed in a new tank. LR that is exposed to air is more prone to cycle due to die-off, particularly any sponges on the rock.

Avoiding a cycle isn't really a goal though, it is part of the natural maturation of your new tank. Even if you are able to set up a tank and not cycle it, gradually adding a little livestock at a time is best so the tank can adjust to meet the bioload.
