I come home this morning to the all TOO familiar scent of electrocution in the air. First thing that came to mind was one of the vho fixtures fell into the water again. I stood in the door for a minute in disbelief (since the same thing happened a few months ago when I had a PC fixture over a tub of water that my fish were in while I was setting up the current tank) I finally gather the guts to look behind the stand, One of the ballast were a little wet! (dang, I wish I had done a drip loop!) I couldn't figure if the tank was leaking or if something was dripping water. I move the ballast and I hear a few light drips, notice the carpet is wet. I completely dismantle the canopy and notice the SKILTER that I forgot to take out when the water cleared. Apparently the skilter sprung a leak somewhere. I'm greatful that my apartment didn't catch fire but I'm PISSED because the GFCI didn't kick in. I look over at my custom built timer/gfci outlet and notice that its still switched to on, I plug in the other ballast and it pops right on without being reset.
Now that I'm done ranting, does anyone know why the GFCI wouldn't have tripped? If it had tripped, could I have saved the ballast? When the ballast dries from the few drips, is there a chance that it will work again or should I start checking the for sale section?
