Nassarius or Sand Sifting Fighting Conch

I have a fighting conch, nassarius snails, astreas, a sand sifting star, blue legged crabs, scarlet crabs, emerald crabs all in my display tank and i've never seen any aggression towards each other.

The nassarius snails did not kill the clam. Most likely the clam was dying and they took advantage of a free buffet. I've got multiple clams in my tank with both small and large nassarius (for several years) and they have never touched them.

I keep both the nassarius and the fighting conch in my display and have never had a problem with either. My only complaint is the conch has moved a couple of corals around that are sitting on the sand bed, but I scooted them back so not a big deal.

Deuce, it could be you had whelks - they eat clam meat. Nassarius do not. They look very similar, so be sure to know what you are buying before you spend your money.

Fighting Conchs are good detrivores that stir the tank, and one per 2 sqft of surface sand is best. If you put too many, they will starve. Cucumbers are another good choice, like the active Tigertail cucumber.
