Nano cube lighting

I have a 12 gallon nano cube (old style). The ballast went on it so I exchanged it for a workhorse. I hooked up everything yesterday, plugged it in and it worked.

I went to put the plastic splash cover on it, and the end socket for the PC is too tall, I can't put the splash cover back on. Do these end socket's come in varying sizes? It's a straight 4 pin. The original wiring didn't have a socket, the wires went straight to the bulb.

The next problem was I plugged it in again and nothing. I checked wiring, plugged it in again...nothing. The ballast is warming up, (and it's brand new) so I don't think it's that. Where is the problem likely to be wiring, bulb, switch? Are there any guidelines for trouble shooting?

Thanks

OK, I got the light working (played with the wires some -didn't change anything but it works). Don't breathe...lol.

Now to get the plastic splash cover to close properly. Do end sockets come in different sizes? If I looked around do you think I could find a shorter one? There is a lot of splash on these tanks and I think it probably is a good idea to have the splash cover fitting well. Besides with it not closing down properly my lid doesn't sit properly either.

How far is it off? Can you post some pictures?
