Last Saturday, Pete told me that Live Aquaria finally had the Lyretail Anthias on sale. I ordered 4 females, 8 chromis, and a Royal Gramma.

These were shipped yesterday, and arrived here just before noon.

I started to float the bags in my quarantine tank, but remembered how badly anthias did each time in the past, so I decided to put the new fish right in my reef. Hopefully, that won't be a risk I'll regret later.

Here's the quarantine tank, far too full of fish.

Thinking about 13 fish being added at once into a 14g cube seemed like a bad plan, so they were moved over to the prop section of my sump.

After about 20 minutes, I cut off each of the aluminum ties. If you cut them on their midpoint, each half can be removed carefully.

To keep the bags floating upright, I affixed each one with a clothespin to a Kent Scraper handle.

Every few minutes, I added more tank water to their bags to acclimate them to the vodka-laden water my reef enjoys. hehe

While they were acclimating, I made 3g of saltwater to pour into my reef. I knew some water would be lost with acclimation, after all.

Once they were full acclimated, I put a net over a bucket, and poured the water and fish into a net.

Look at that tiny yet adorable Royal Gramma.

The fish were then released into the reef, one by one.

Here are a few shots of them in the tank. I couldn't find the Royal Gramma, but hope he's just hiding at the moment and will come out in the next few days.

As of now, the only loss was a single chromis that poured out of the acclimation bag dead into the net. I'd have to call that a DOA.

I like how tiny the chromis were, because that way they shouldn't have a problem integrating with the ones I have.

The anthias are a beautiful color, and smaller than the ones I already have. So hopefully that won't be a problem either.

I finally have a reason to feed my tank again.

Congratulations on the additions. The lyretails are big eaters so feed a lot and often.

I like how your QT tank is for show purposes only. You should just take it down and use that area for something else. :) Great fish....that gramma is [tiny].

Cheers,

The quarantine tank is very good for new corals though. Don't discount that very important feature.

It just wasn't a good choice for new fish, at least this many at once. I'll likely take it down and replace it with something different that works better. I may make one with all the filtration in one end so it is more useful.

I hear you though!

Marc.

I know this is off subject, but I love your site and go there to read about your tanks. I am curious if the suncoral tank is still together, and is it the 2 gallon pico you used to have? You take great pictures and you make it easy for the newbie reefer to feel comfortable.

Yes, the suncoral tank is still going, and it replaced the pico that had Casper in it. Every night I feed the suncorals before I feed the reef. I probably could feed them two or three times each evening, but I haven't.

Since they were fed almost four hours ago, plus I put a light over them to take these pictures, they looked a little wilted or ready to retract.

The new additions look great. Man, I can't wait to get mine going so I can start buying fish.

Your tank is looking goooood. There's been a lot of growth since the last time I was out to pick up my photo box.

gorgeous pictures!!! i wish someday i'll be able to have a 200+gallon tank with schools of fish like you and others in this club, so cool --

I had a tiny gramma like that not too long ago. It was the neatest little fish, but my huge bubble tip anemone ate it. :( All I remember seeing was his purple head sticking out of the anemone mouth. I have no idea whether it died and the anemone grabbed hold of it, or if the anemone legitimately caught it.

Oh well, it was worth the money just to watch Frank try to catch that little thing!

John, when I was at the Long Beach Aquarium last month, I was blown away by the beautiful suncoral / dendro / gorg tank. I'll have to post a few pictures of it soon.

Or maybe Matt would like me to do a slide presentation at a future club meeting of the various sights there.

Please check my site or ask in my sponsored forum. I can't answer that here.

I posted in the Live Aquaria forum on RC, and they pretty much credited almost everything in that order. I don't know what I'm going to do about it yet, but I'm happy to report that Spock is completely healthy. I got really lucky.

Maybe I'll just get a Mystery Wrasse instead. :D
