This is my nano...It is made out of 1/4" acrylic. The deminsions of the tank are 24"Lx18"Dx12"H. There is a back section that is 4" deep that holds the DIY skimmer and the 2 pumps(one a off brand(500gph) and one a Quiet One 3000(700pgh)). My question is what filter media should I put in the back?I was thinking maybe a layer of carbom and a filter pad where the fuge was going to be

That looks really nice, and is quite similar to a tank I built for a guy in Florida.

Nano Tank

Do you plan to install a sump under this? If not, it might be tough to come up with a good method of mechanical filtration because you don't have full-width access to put a solid tray in there.

You might be able to set up some trays side by side, and put filterfloss across them. The water would flow through the floss and trap the larger particles. You'd have to replace the floss frequently (every 3 or 4 days) to avoid nitrate issues and decaying waste.

Marc-I dont plan on having a sump on this. That tank that you showed me is amazingly very similar. I just woke up one morning and said hey...I think im going to build myself a tank. I always enjoy building things and creating something that challenges both my mind and the construction. I think im going to put the skimmer hanging behing the tank now because putting it in the back compartment will take up too much space. The run-off from the skimmer will spill over into the trays like you suggested. Im still debating over baffles because I think that the trays will take care of the micro-bubbles. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to look at my creation. There will be more pics coming on tongiht when I have time to download them off the camera
