My new anemone...

Just bought a awesome purple sebae! I have seen even less of these than purple lta's so if I can propagate this one that would be great too...still looking for a purple lta as well.

Woohoo finally found my purple LTA. How ironic to find some just after buying this guy. Oh well...better late than never! Will post pics as soon as they get here.

If I remember correctly, Sebae's do not split...do you think that will have an effect on their ability to heal after being cut?

According to Calfo you can cut them...I dont know if I will cut him though. I'm scared. Supposedly they can be cut just like BTA's. LTA's dont split much either but they can be cut. I actually posted in Anthony's forum about cutting this anemone and here is his response.

please see the archives here for reassurance my friend... there are so many threads on anemone propgation that are dated and detailed with many on Heteractis and sebaes specifically. See the sticky atop this forum called "fav links" and then once inside scroll down to the post called "discussions" and find anemone prop in the alphabetical list. All Heteractis except for magnifica respond as (very) well to cutting like Entacmaea (bubble tip) do. No worries. . Anthony Calfo "No act of kindness said:
:D :D :D Good news to hear that straight from him! Of course, just because they respond well to HIM doesn't mean they will for me. Seems he has a special touch with them.

Thanks
Angela

I don't think it's his touch as much as the fact that he follows his proven practices religously. i.e., not cutting a new anemone until it has had four months of recovery and establishment time in your system, using mono-culture systems, etc., etc.

I believe the key is to follow the proven practices, be patient , and be systematic in all that you do with propagation. If you do the same thing the same way every time and do it properly you should come out ahead, and if something does goes wrong it will be much easier to find the problem when you don't have to figure out what you did different each time you cut.

If I do end up cutting this guy it will be at least 4-6 months or until I feel like it is completely healthy and can tolerate the stress. It will not be mixed with the roses. I am in no hurry to cut this one. It really scares me. It might end up in the 265 living the easy life.

Where did you get the purple LTA? Are there more? I have been casually looking for one.

Oooohhh....Wow! Good luck with that! All my research has steered me clear of sebaes, not to mention the price. Crossing my fingers for you, and make sure you get us some pics! :D

not to mention the price said:
It's name is "Grimace" due to what we did when we saw the price. You don't even want to know...trust me...I have a regular purple tip sebae that was my first nem and it is huge and beautiful. We actually got it at DNA's annual sell for like $20. The run of the mill sebaes are pretty cheap actually. I haven't ever thought of them as "easier" or "harder" than BTA's really even though they are supposed to be so "difficult." In fact I have had much better luck with Sebaes and LTA's than BTA's in the past (not counting the Shermans...they are bulletproof).

My LFS actually has been hounding her wholesaler to get me some...they finally did. Not sure who the wholesaler is though or if they have more. Any LFS should be able to order you one, but it may take awhile to get it.

Here's a pic of Grimace. Definately not at full potential yet but still pretty impressive! He's about 8" right now and I'm guessing will be at least 12-13" when expanded fully. Isn't "he" beautiful? Very sticky too!

Hopefully the purple LTA's will be half as awesome as this guy. They will be here in the morning so wish me luck.

Thanks! He's looking much better today. The LTA's came in this morning looking great as well. Nothing against BTA's but I have never seen them arrive in half as good of shape as either the sebae or the LTA's. I wish I could take some new pics to post but I have to go to work.

Angela,

How much does one of those purple lta run for? Are there any website fish store carry these purple lta?

The one in the pic? It's actually a sebae. I have never seen another one like it for sale. He was a divers den item. $299

As for purple LTA's I have seen them for $75-$200 depending on size...no place I have found has them in stock though.

Oh yeah...and the purple LTA's I got are pretty small...some are almost identical in color to the sebae though and others are more golden with purple tentacles. I paid $75 each for them.

The Sebae ended up in the 265! He's just too pretty not to be in there! He's getting some Nemo love right now. Nemo REALLY clashes with the purple though but he's tacky anyway...

dont know if you like these colors but i am doing a group buy with Rommell again next month...bottom of the page

Pics of the purple LTA's. There is one that is badly bleached that the LFS just gave me for free...they are all feeding well and are very sticky so I'm pretty confident that even the bleached one will make a full recovery. They definately need some TLC in order to reach their full glory, but I think they are pretty. I dont think any two of them are alike.

I will try to get some pics of the purple sebae tomorrow while the 265 lights are on..

Thanks for looking
Angela
