My big, bad Yasha

Well, I hadn't seen the Yasha around for over 2 weeks and he finally came out and was hanging around the rock close to the clowns' area. Since he was out I grabbed the camera to take a few pics. He gave the small male clown a warning... but the female clown came out of hiding and decided he was too close to her "home". First she pushes on him, then as he turns around, she nips at his tail. Poor little guy,not much of a welcome. He wasn't hurt, but I'm surprised he didn't just dart away. His hiding spot is at the back wall of the aquapod, at the top behind this outflow pipe. If I didn't have a good cover, he probably would've been in the back where the pumps are by now.

Even though my female clown can be very snippy, she's a total chicken. She runs and hides behind the back rock at just about anything. Her and my jawfish have collided going after the same food and all you see are two flashes as they both run and hide. But the male, having been tank raised is very curious about these other fish and keeps checking them out. He's not at all skittish.

That's a really neat series of shots. In the Big Bad Yasha picture, what's the fish on the left?

Thanks. That's Sam (Samantha), my yellowhead jawfish. I purchased a mated pair, but unfortunately her mate found a very small opening by the intake tube of the HOB filter in the QT tank and I didn't find him till the next morning. She's an absolutely delightful fish with sooo much personality. But to be honest I would not keep a pair in a 24 gallon now that I've had her. She really likes having a few "apartments" so I think more room is better for these guys.

Now that is what I call Sexual Dimorphism! Sweetie is HUGE in comparison to her beau.

That is a great looking tank Deb. I sooooo can't wait to get my 150 established so I can put in a couple pairs of the Yellow Heads. Ilove watching them when I dive.

Must... have... patience...

Sweetie was obtained from another member and she is a bit older (at least a year maybe a tad older) than her mate (haven't figured a name for him yet) I obtained the male from Ted and he's just under or at 6 months. He'll catch up though.

Yeah, a 150 would be great... lots of "den" digging room. Sam actually sleeps outside her den at night, which she did in the QT as well. Because every morning I have to cover up the craters in the front corners of the tank where she's dug down to the glass bottom. But by the time daylight hits (tank by sliding glass door) she must slip back into her den. She's always picking at pods either in the sand, rock or the water column. You will thoroughly enjoy them.

I have or had a Yasha like that. I never see him but I suspect he's still in the tank. A year after buying him with a pistol shrimp, his pistol shrimp died so I never saw him. Then somehow he got down the overflow and lived in the sump till I found him. I got him another pistol shrimp and put him back in the tank. I never see either one of them, though I hear the pistol shrimp. They're so neat, too bad they hide all the time.
