My Atlantic Blue tang

He's been in the tank for several months now and is doing well. I love the color on these fish. It's just a baby now but it will get fairly large, probably outgrowing my tank one day.

Richard- These fish tend to get really big in the wild. I've heard of stories of dinner plate-sized blue tangs. Of course, mine won't get that big so I'll have to upgrade tanks for it to grow out in.

Landon- I've had it for about two months. That makes 5 tangs for me and just about full capacity for my tank.

Here's a list of my fish list as of today:

-6" Vlamingi tang
-4" Naso tang
-4" Yellow tang
-2" Desjardini tang (sailfin)
-2" Atlantic blue tang
-Six 2" lyretail anthias (one male, five females)
-1" true perc
-3" Ruby-headed fairy wrasse
-1" Six line wrasse
-2" Falco Hawkfish

I'll probably add a copperband butterfly and one more perc and be done.

Hey Steve,

Nice stocking list...very similar to what I have in my 270. I noticed you indicated that you'd like to introduce a Copperband Bfly into the mix. I hope it goes better for you than when I did it...I tried to introduce one about six months ago. I quarantined for 4 weeks, had it eating good, and when I added it to my tank I had to watch in horror as my Desjardini tang killed it in a matter of 20 minutes. There was nothing I could do. He was slamming CB against the reef, chasing it out of the tank, etc. I couldn't get it out in time.

I've resigned myself to my current happy mix of tangs and fish and just realized I'll have to put a CB in another tank sometime.

Matt

Thanks for the info Matt. I will definitely take your past experience into consideration.

The sailfin is quite small right now so I was hoping to get a CBB that was larger. Mymain concern is the yellow tang. He's pretty large and thinks he's the boss. I may have to take him out at some point.

I saw some at the Corpus Christi aquarium and they were as big as adult french angels. Those tangs get so massive, but they really are a pretty blue color. Good luck with it, you don't see too many in the hobby (or maybe that's just me)

We used to see these fish a lot diving in the keys. They love to hang out underneath the lighthouses like around Molasses Reef Light, Fowey and Cary's Fort Light. I HAVE seen them as big as French angels out around Sombero Reef. Very Majestic fish. I wonder how big they get in aquariums.

I had the same problem when I added my CB (they are wimps)...I would suggest adding two fish at once to split the aggression. Funny thing is, my Achilles Tang has turned out to be far more aggressive. When I added him to the tank, he chased all the other fish around. It took a few days, but they all eventually learned to get along.
