Hrmm.. maybe it should read

If Temp < 77.0 Then ALM ON
If Temp > 77.5 Then ALM OFF
If Temp > 83.1 Then ALM ON
If Temp < 83.0 Then ALM OFF

I've had it drop to 76 during a water change when cleaning out the sump and the probe comes out of the water, but the tank temp has never gotten above 81'ish.

HOT$-G01

"If Temp > 83.1 Then HOT ON "
"If Temp < 83.0 Then HOT OFF"

Then turn the alm on based on HOT

"IF HOT ON then ALM ON"

Te default off will take care of the off for this one

Then delete in the program

"If Temp > 83.1 Then ALM ON"
"If Temp < 83.0 Then ALM OFF''

it took me awhile to figure out that I needed to disable html too!

Anyways, Ashlar, I noticed that you had '//comments' in your program

For some reason (its been awhile), I think my AC3 strips out the comments after I save. I would LOVE to be able to leave comments in my program. Maybe I was using "; something after the command" to leave a note.

Any thoughts on this?

The only thing I really want is a logical AND statement

ie, if I have a power outage in the middle of the night, my pc fixture pops on (LT4) because of the 'If Power...' settings.

The other thing I've added on the temp side you might want to do is.

If Temp > 86 chiller off.

If your temp is over 86 (or 88 or whatever you choose) this has to be a bogus reading if your temp probe goes nutso you don't want to overchill.

on the flipside

Heater turn off when temp < 72

Same reasoning as above. What if the probe falls out of the tank, etc.

That is what

if temp probe unplugged, turn off anything that could heat / cool the tank
If Temp < 50.0 Then HE1 OFF
If Temp < 50.0 Then LT1 OFF
If Temp < 50.0 Then LT2 OFF
If Temp < 50.0 Then LT3 OFF
If Temp < 50.0 Then FAN OFF
If Temp < 50.0 Then CHL OFF

is for. This was suggested by CPR on the ReefCentral threads. Something about if the probe fails or comes out of the water it will read < 50 degrees. All though I could see setting it at a more resonable number to help with other possible issues.

Yup, Steve, I'd think something like 70 might cover both situations- the probe coming out of the water as well as being unplugged.

You also need it for the upper end also. probes have been known to flake out and read like 99 degrees when the tank is really fine.

Gah, I really need a logical AND.. the other night the power going off three times caused my dawn/dusk light top pop on because of the 'If Power..' lines.

I think I have a solution to the logical AND issue. It's not elegant, but I think it should work.

I have a mix of X-10 modules and DC-8s. I'm going to plug an X-10 module into one of the DC-8 ports. Set the DC-8 port to be on at a certain time, and use the x-10 module in the 'If Power..' statements.

I've got an extra x-10 module and I'll test it tonight.

Wow! Is this what you have to do with a Aqua Controller? I had no idea. These things may be over my head.

I was thinking an Aqua controller could be used for something simple (and done simply too) of controlling your MH light cycle, monitoring your heaters (making sure they don't get stuck and burn your tank up), and monitoring your PH.

Maybe I don't need an Aqua Controller. This thread makes it sound extremely complicated.

Nah, it's really not that complicated for normal scenarios. It's when you say something like 'While the MH lights are on, if the power goes out, I want the actinics to come on for 30 minutes, and then bring the metal halides back on after 10, 20, and 30 minutes for cool down' that it gets complicated.

Or.. 'During the day only, I want my powerheads on random. At night I want them always on'- that's another one that came up recently that no controller on the market addresses directly (that I know of.)

Now see, you lost me there. Why wouldn't the power heads be on anyways??? Why would you need a controller to have power heads on? I obviously have no clue what these controllers do or are for.

Two things are in conflict here.. 1) Some folks want more flow in the daytime versus at night and 2) some powerheads should come on and off randomly to make non-linear flow (random turbulence).

*edit: and ideally, a controller should replace a few other pieces of equipment / consolidate the mess, not add to it.
