my 55g+ reef build.

bye bye 29 gallon and hello 55g... this will be a slow build.. ask I have the stuff, I still need a better skimmer(all I have is the prizm), and I will need lighting, and live rock... god everything else... will be using water, sand, and rock out of the 29 to help with this 55g build...

here is the nice stand, and canopy with nice tank... I think the tank is ocean view or oceanic it's got the same this glass as a 75 gallon, and it turns out to be 55g+ 23 tall and not the normal 20 tall like most 55g are.. the stand is 36, and the canopy is 4-5 inches tall I'm going to need a step ladder.

will work on getting the sand and water in later to night after dinner.... will be this weekend when I get the a start of rock in there, waiting for my birthday gifts/money from friends and family... I ask my sister to get me a good start to the live rock....

can any one else not see them I got a pm that my photos are not coming up but I can see them.. I used image shack I'll try photo bucket and see if that works....

They are working and I can see them fine. Looks good. Take your time and do it right with no regrets. Congrats on the upgrade!

Thanks will hopefully be getting the rock this weekend..... should I go ahead and put the sand and water in there and get it running, or wait till I have the rock for it?

BOO, need to sell the tank I had a few things come up.. do you think the sump would be over kill on a 25g just use a smaller return pump right

um maybe not if I can get some questions answers. do I need all 80 to 100 pounds of live rock set up all at one time... or can I add little by little like 5-10 pounds each week or two? can I set it up as fish only then add rock later. so sand, water, turn on the return pump, and power heads and get it running?

You can but depending on the rock you will have some die off if it is live rock by just taking it out of the water to transport it for any length of time. Non live rock should be fine so just expect a small cycle if you put much in the tank at once.

so I went to bangito974(spelling?) jimmy's house and was able to get rock... now i just need lighting and a skimmer. will use my 24w x2 kit for now and my hob skimmer.....

will have photos in the am hours..... I also need a return nossle for the return pump.. will just use the spray bar from one of my old canister filters...

so it's up and running. around 60 pounds of live sand, around 100 pounds od mix rock tufa and fiji. 400 to 600 gph, over flow, rio 1700 return pump, sunsun 5000 lh cir. pump (knock off hydor pump) , t5 ho 24w x2 on one side. some kenya trees and corals. 6 red dart fish.. would any one be interested in the 29g if any one has t5 ho 54w x 2 or 4 retro kits for sell let me. photos will be up when i get home at doctors office. i'm on my cell right now.

I haven't been able to find my camera. but I got a 65w x 4 retro fit from a friend.. (power compacts)... got some coral frags too.
I can take photos with my cell phone, if someone can tell mehow to get them from my cell to on here..

Any problems with the firefish harassing each other?
I thought unless it was a mated pair, they didn't get along (not sure where I read that)?
Also, do you have a top? I heard they will jump if spooked.

I've heard that to but only in a small tank, I've had no problems. and I have lids on top of the tank, then the lights are up in the canopy..

so now I got brown spot algae and need to replace the bulbs ouch 40-60 dollars a piece (I need 65w straight pin power compacts any one know where I can get them locally for cheap) might switch to t5 ho lighting.... kenya trees are growing a little bit.... water change time will be soon. just trying to push it out till this weekend so i can get my check and have money...

just having a hard time.. it's in a new location in my room.. I need to make a aqua scape I like, and not try to do it when I'm tired. my rio 1700 looks like it will need to be replaced not working right and making noise. still working on getting better lighting all I have is a 36 inch 2 bulb t5 ho fixture that is a single reflector..
