How far are your vortechs mounted from surface of water . I believe mine are about 6 inches. Do I need to move them up or do in tank
 
Sounds about right, but how tall is your tank? In a power outage, I'd move it up to the surface to chop air into the water while running in battery backup mode.
 
30 inch tall tank. Thanks for reminding me. Need to hook up the battery back up tonight. Doesn't do much good sitting next to tank !
 
24" from sand to the waterline and I have mine about 5" below the surface. It'll pull a vortex if I run it at 100% but I only run it at about 60 - 70% or I get sand kicked around.
