Moving up from ACJr.

So I am thinking of moving up from my AC Jr. to something else.

I don't know whether I want to go to an ACIII, or a ReefKeeper 2.

Budget is $350, so it puts both in range "used". I'll just sell mine to offset the cost.

Anyway, I found that not having the serial port, and no ability to remote monitor or control is a real PITA, so I want something with a little more remote management functionality.

I plan on keeping my DC-8, so i am thinking the Reefkeeper may be out of the question (unless I can get one with it's own flavor of the DC8)

Please offer any advice, opinions on either.

Thanks

The RK-2 does not have remote monitoring/control. You will have to go to the Elite($500) for that. I am not sure about the AC III. I know the AC III Pro does.

If you're keeping your DC-8 just move up to the ACIII. That's what I use and it handles everything I need plus I have a desktop widget on my laptop that monitors my tank. I also have it set up on two battery backups so that it will email me when the power fails or any other alerts that happen.

It really does everything I need.

I just got my ACIII up about 1 month ago.
It's really easy to program from the computer. If you look on this forum you can see everyone's programming, make it simple or get creative.
If you're going to control the AC at home you can simply hook it up to your network and that's about all you have to do. You access it from your web browser by the address you assign it (192.168.1.50 is the default) and it brings up the main page. Then you can choose the pages shown below.

This might be TMI but here's the rest.
I didn't show the clock editor but it's just what you'd expect.
I'll upgrade to a battery backup because if the power goes out it won't erase your programming but it will erase the data log and the graph.
I was going to say come over and look at mine but that's got to be a couple thousand miles
