Most Unique Corals... Best Color, Most Expensive...

What are the most expensive corals out there?

What, in you opinions, are the most unique/cool looking corals to be had? Price not an object...

LPS/SPS/ Heck even Zoa's or Shrooms...

Just of a few of the more popular and pricey ones sure to make your wallet scream :) There are quite a few so it would take all night to list them out. Sometimes you can find them cheaper sometimes not.

wow that Melting Pot Chalice is amazing looking. Do you have these in your tank DaveJ? said:
Most of them I do yes, but not all of them, the Sunset, Bazkooka Joe, Red Tyree Watermelon and the Mojito are shots from my system and I have frags of the Ice Fire and small colony of the Purple Monster that are slowly growing up. My Ice Fire doesn't look anything like that photo right now, but I have high hopes for it when it grows up :)

The Melting Pot looks like that under Actinics only, under normal lighting it doesn't look nearly as attractive. I've seen photos of a few of the frags under normal lighting and wasn't that impressed.

That Bubble Gum Monster and Emerald Mummy Eye are very cool corals. Lots of these types of corals coming in these days.

I want to say I have 3 frags is the melting pot and very lucky to have them. All three frags look nothing alike and the colors are not like the mother. You will not see much color from any frag of the melting pot until they get bigger.I can tel you that not many frags are around maybe 7 to 8 frags.Ktar has the other half. You will not be able to find any frag for $400.00 or for any amount.Last week I had a offers for over $600.00 and I turned them down.I have been in contact with Steve Tyree and I am waiting for what he has to offer.I can say thats yea not much color on the frags but you give mine time and see what they turn into.My largest frag of the melting pot is starting to get some color and is very bright. This chalice is by far the hardest chalice to come by.I have venders emailing just about everyday.I can only hope that time will turn my frags into what the mother looks like

What about the Zoa's? said:
Later tonight perhaps when I have some time... it takes a bit putting together photos because just naming names isn't all that interesting without some visuals.

Another rare/expensive coral right now seems to be the rhizos. They go for some pretty outrageous prices--$300-$1200 each, depending on the color. Here are some pics:

my best and most expensive and most beautiful is a pink hammer

Yea i would say most expansive corals are going to be chalices and acans, because they are slow growing, and wont return what you paid for them for a while, especially some of those mentioned by Dave, because you'll most likely start out with one eye. That's the only reason what makes them expansive.

I would rather pay $200 for a quarter inch SPS coral, and get the money back within months, then get stuck with an acan that produces one head per year.

Plus you can never guess what the SPS frag will look like in a few months in your tank, chalices and acans will remain identical 5 years from now, even if they gain a few eyes.

Yep... that's why I only buy typically only buy large acan pieces, since they are so slow growing. I haven't fragged a single one and probably won't as its just a crime to cut them up like that. Chalices have a pretty good growth rate though. Some of the ones I have have doubled in size in about 6 months or so. Granted starting from a 1/2 frag that isn't saying much :) But in a year or so, you can have a nice sized small colony going.

I do have one acan frag I got though from a guy in NY. Its a pink ring, beauty. He sent over 3 polyps and its got about 8 or 9 now and pretty much covers the disc. It will take forever for it to build a base however but if you provide something for them to grow on, they spread pretty well.
