i like that... (is that a glow from your frag tank?)

just a question, do you believe that moon lights help or not effect a reef? i ask because some believe that setting up a moon light to correspond to the moon cycle will help with coral spawning and other things...
i just like the look and like to be able to look at my reef at night.
(i like the picture in the back ground... its like she is looking in on the top of your tank! )

That picture was taken with the moonlights on as well as the Evolution blue LEDs over the frag tank. I was really trying to capture the silhouette mainly. It'll be much more striking when these corals grow bigger.

I use moonlights for one hour every night from 10pm to 11pm. For me, it's just a quiet time to enjoy the tank. I know others prefer to emulate the lunar cycle and some have enjoyed (???) the spawning effects. Others hated the mess they had to clean up. hehe

Very nice picture. I like how it seems a lot of the fish are looking at the poster of Marilyn in the fish-room.

@Marc so do you just leave the tank dark after 11pm until the next day? I have my normal lights (Coralife Aqualight 2-10,000K and 2 Actinic) on timers with the Actinic coming on an hour before and after the 10K but wondered about the moonlights. I was running them overnight......

Yes, the tank is dark for the next six hours. By 5am it is total blackout because the refugium light clicks off. It stays that way until the sun rises and shines light into the patio doors.

Cool effect, but next time if you are going after the silhouette effect, it would look better if you took Marilyn down for the picture [smilie=wink.gif]
