Montiporas not doing good

I have a mix reef. All of the corals are doing good except monitporas. Satosa, red planet, frog skin are doing great

Monti cap, Sunset, Rainbow, and Superman all lost colors. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. Here is some of the information

120 gallons live rocks, mixed reef with Carbon and GFO. not sure if it matters Carbon change is overdue. 60 gallons sump.

1) KH 8.4 dkh
2) CA 500+ (redsea test kit is detecting is 500+ can't pin point exact number)
3) mg 1600+ (redsea test kit is detecting is 500+ can't pin point exact number)
4) sg 1.023
5) I change 10 gals every week
6) PO is between .09 - .10
7) temp is between 80.4 and 81.2
8) pH is between 8.50 and 8.60

getting frustrated [smilie=angry.gif] no idea where I am going wrong...any help is highly appreciated.

Salinity is a little low, should be closer to 1.025 for SPS. P04 is high for SPS.Water temp. is a little warm too. But it really sounds like lighting issue to me. The corals that are doing good are all high like corals. What kinda light do you have and what are the trouble corals placement in the tank. Picture says a thousand words.

I will raise salinity tomorrow. These corals have done great with P04 being .08-.011.

What should be the temperature for mix reef? I am using AI SOL at 67% All of them are frags and are on frag rack so it not at the top but it is higher than middle.

I will try to post pics tomorrow.

78 is a temp i have found works best for me. I would not set Whites above 50%. I run 2 AI SOL blues over a 75gal. Whites 50%, Blues 85%, Royal Blues at 100%. I have mostly SPS and LPS. All do very good. Corals dont like high white lite. They not used to it. Think of it this way, when sun lite hits the water and goes deep to corals it is turned blue due to water being blue. Try lowering your whites for a coule days.

Have your tests double checked as Pampee mentioned, I would double check the mag as well. Bring the temp down a bit 77-79 is closer to where ya want to be but with corals from various reefs and temp variations youll never get it exact to what they are used to. Best you can do is aim for a happy middle ground.

When a monti goes bad, they are typically very hardy, it is usually one or a combination of parameters that are out of check. Placement depends on the amount of light in the tank to begin with, if you have weak lightening, higher up is better if you have strong, lower. Those types you mentioned all typically will handle the same lighting placement.

I will CHG slanity slowly. I will also jeep temp between 77 & 79. I will get parameters checked and will post today.

As for light I will CHG as suggested but here is the weird part all of these montis didn't CHG color for 3 months at the same position with same light intensity. One day they decided to fade :(

I will post my parameters soon

Do you still have polyp extension? As mentioned above you have a chemical in balance. Mag should be 3 times your Ca. By the same token you Ca should be around 420-460. By those numbers Mag should fall around 1260-1380. Good luck. And still pictures help a lot.

My Refracto was playing games it was showing salinity at 1.023 while it was 1.030

Working on bringing it down. CA is at 520 which I think is ok. I won't dose until it comes down to 460

there ya go... just make sure all are truly accurate. You'll need to retest everything once you get your salinity back in check.

Slowly took out 9 gallons and replaced with ro I will chk all parameters tomorrow

Thanks all for support

My monti's tell me first when I have an issue in the tank. Greens first the reds follow. I have found more an issue with all and calcium causing the issue more than anything else. Every time you use the refracts meter test with or water and make sure it's zero. Many tanks like many things. I keep my all around 10-10.5 and calcium in the mid 400s. When one moves, the other does also. Retest ph also. Mine has spiked up before from to much all dosing and the green monit bleached first.
