Montipora is bleaching please help

[I have a green montipora cap that was 1/4 in covered in sand for like two days and it bleached a small part of it. My question is does it spread? Should I just frag the rest of it to keep it from turning white?]

[If it bleached because it was stuck in the sand, it should be no problem. This has happened to me and after a week or two, it will be covered back up.

[Keep a very close eye on it. I had one with the same problem and literally overnight it went from a quarter sized patch to almost all white (it was a bit bigger than palm-sized). If the area starts spreading, I'd break it into several frags without any of the bleached area and relocate them to different parts of your tank - or sell/trade them if you don't have room for all. Here's my baby before:]

[I had that happen to a cap once and it actually wound up growing up and over the damaged area. Do keep an eye on it, and as advised, frag if it starts to spread.]

[Ususally not a problem and will grow right back over! I have it happen all the time as a snail of some detritus or something gets stuck there for a couple days before I blow them off! Never had a problem with them coming back!

If it stats to spread then your issue wasn't simply being covered by the sand. It has some kind f bigger problem and you need to frag as advised above.

Let us know what happens.]

[So far the montipora is not turning white anymore from what I can see. The white area appears to not be growing back yet but I think this will take a week or two (somebody let me know if I'm wrong on that) I will keep you updated]

[It will grow new tissue of the bleached area. The white area will not heal, once submerged in sand. No coral seems to survive that, ime.]
