I've discovered Montipora eating nudibranchs in my frag tank. That explains why some have been dying. I need a producted called Oomed. Anyone have a clue where I can find it? I thought they were isolated on one coral, but I've found them scattered in that tank and I'm just going to treat the system.

Here's the article with some pictures of the beasties.

I'll take some pictures of mine now that I know what they look like.

Here is a picture of what is probably a nudibranch laying eggs on my coral.

Alright, I decided I need to try to pluck off a few and quickly realized how hard they are to remove with my current forceps. Maybe some very sharp tweezers would do the trick. I saw eggs too. UGH!

Anyway, you know I love to take a picture of this stuff, so here are 17 images for your consideration. They were put into a tiny tiny jelly (sampler) jar, which was then placed on top of a regular jelly jar (Bon Maman is the brand if that helps give you a sense of scale) and put one of my 5100K refugium bulbs next to the jars for some lighting. Now that you see the size of the 'studio', I do hope this helps you realize how small these are.

That is the tip of my index finger on the side of the glass, to give you an idea of the size of this little guy.

Oh, I'm sure it is one of those gifts that keeps on giving, hitching in quietly on some coral from some tank.

Marc you can longer buy OOmed. It was one of those products that people used a while ago but was banned by the government for some ingrediant. Eric B. even talks about using it himself on page 390 of his Aquaium Corals book.
He desribes it as a
"broadrange antibiotic and antiparasitic treatment that has a fairly low degree of toxicity in marine environments. The dosages are listed at three levels, the lowest of which is claimed to be safe for all invertebrates. It is unlikely that any medication effective in treating most coral diseases is entirely "reef safe," but Marin OOmed does provide a significant amount of antimicrobial/antiparasitic activity considering its low toxicity. In several courses of treatment for ich outbreaks among fishes in my own tanks, no adverse effects were seen in any invertebrae or coral in over 2 weeks of treatment. Marin OOmed is useful in treating fishes in reef aquariums, and it is possible that this product may be used with a reasonable amount of safety and efficacy in treating certain coral diseases, though cautionary experinmnetal trials are highly advised."

Advised by Steve a few years ago to buy some when we found out it was to be taken off the market. I bought a bottle for future use in case I ever needed it. Luckily for me I have never needed to use the stuff for any reason. If you feel comfortable about what you have read about the stuff and want to use some out of the bottle I have, you are welcome to it. Let me know.

I'd hate to use up your product if it is unavailable now. Hmm. I already know interceptor doesn't touch these things.

I have had the bottle for over three years and never touched it. If you need it to get rid of those pests you can can use it. Some one might as well use it if they need it.

Okay, then I'll get it from you at the Frag Swap. Thank you so much! I heard that up in Canada you can still get it, and I'm going to pursue that as well. If I have these in my tank, and if they came in from Keith's stuff, then it may be in other club members tanks as well.

Rick, someone on RC gave me link to an Ebay listing for oomed, so I bought two bottles shipped for about $8.50. So I'll be sure to give you one of the new bottles when I see you next.

I siphoned out about 200 nudibranchs last night, but haven't treated the corals yet. I've been too busy. Now I have 55g of saltwater mixing and aging, so I'll be able to tackle this soon.

Here's the URL in case anyone else wants some. They had 11 bottles when I chose to Buy It Now.
