Modifying Overflow Box

I am considering modifying my overflow box to be a preskimmer for my CPR BakPak.

Option 1) If I use the back half of the overflow box I would have to cut the slots at the top and I would have to plug the drain hole in the bottom.

Option 2) If I use the front half that already has the slot I would have to shorten the CPR BakPak intake tube considerably to get the pump to fit and I am not sure how to make a bracket to hold it.

Any thoughts on choosing between these two?

A plethora of information.

I will choose option 2 and shorten the intake pipe 2". Unfortunately it is an unknown size being 3/4" on the outside. I think the adapter on the end is glued.

You know a 600 MaxiJet runs these just fine with injected air on the intake before the impeller.

I will have to make my own hanging bracket. Where do I get Weld-on for acrylic in Richardson?

I don't know what number of glue to get either. Looking online there are several different varieties.

My take: The CPR preskimmers are about $17 online, and can be found used for much less. I bought one a while ago for $5 to use as a the in-tank part of a DIY overflow on a nano/pico tank.

At that price (new or used) I'd just buy one and use it instead of modifying the skimmer or your existing overflow.

The best part:
Not spending any more money.

That is much better. Just keep up with topping off the tank and it will work fine.
