Mixing media in 1 reactor

I lost a piece to one of my reactors while cleaning and changing the media and I was wondering if I could just combine the media in one. I run carbon and phosban, just wondered if I could put them in the same one. I don't see why I wouldn't but thought I'd check here first. It would also free up some same under the tank.

Sorry to hijack but if you have a dual reactor setup from brs which should.come first the carbon or gfo?

I didn't even think about the life of each media being different. I put the GFO in the working one so that will give me time to get another reactor or rig a small tube to fix the one I have. Appreciate it and no worries about hijacking the thread [smilie=smile.gif]

Hi,
GFO then Carbon, you want make sure that any fines created from the GFO will get trapped by the carbon so that coral's won't get irritated. My BRS dual reactor is labeled also.

Cheers,

I'm looking at that one.. I assume flow rate is the same through both canisters? Trying to decide if I want to run separate reactors or a two stage like this."]

Yup flow thru that one is the same, the amount of flow needed to gently tumble the GFO puts you at the 50-80GPH rate for optimal carbon performance imo. however I'm not a big fan of the brs unit's for this task. Anytime you have a dual purpose anything, there is alway's a trade off, I prefer smaller individual unit's myself.
