Miracle Mud

I just got a sump - does miracle mud go in the sump like a sand bed, or is it some sort of additive. There is something appealing about doing anything that may result in a "miracle" in my tank, but I am trying to get past the marketing on this one.
Who has used it, and what do you think?
Any opinions wouls be helpful.

Some folks on RC analyzed the components of "Miracle Mud" and found a bunch of crap that you don't want in it - dirt, grit, all kinds of whack stuff. I unsubscribed to all my threads a few months back, but if you search RC for "miracle mud" or "miracle mud composition" I'm sure you could find it.
