Metal Halide Question

Hey Guys,

So I am setting up a 30 gallon and I want to be able to keep anything I want in it. Originally I had planned on a quad T5 setup hanging over the tank, but now I am kind of leaning towards halides. If I were to go with a single hanging pendant would it create too much heat? What would be the best way to do this? Or, do you think I could keep anything, including clams, under the quad T5?
 
I've got a Derasa that has been growing like crazy under my quad T-5 setup. I know some of the clams require more light which is why I stuck with a Derasa that requires relatively less.
