Mesh Mod

I did the mesh mod based on some videos i saw online, basically cut out three squares of the pf4 mesh, trimmed it to the shape, drilled holes and secured with zip ties. Now the freaking thing is making random humming noises in the middle of the night, shoots up water, stops for no reason, etc. I Even think the efficiency of the skimmer went down. Did I do something wrong?
 
sounds like it is catching might try to use fishing line instead of the zip ties
 
The zip ties should work fine, I've never had any problems with them.

Did you trim off the excess mesh so it's not extending past the wheel?
How old is the pump/magnet/shaft? It sounds more like a magnet going bad. That's the same thing ours did before the magnet swelled up and locked.

If you've got a micrometer you could measure the magnet and see if it's swollen in the middle.

Do you have some photos of your finished mod?
 
No, didn't take photos, the thing is it was working perfect before I did the mod, if there's was something wrong with the magnet it probably would've been noticeable before I did it, I dunno, I trimmed the excess, might just have to redo it over again since I have some mesh left over.
