Measuring flow rate - How?

[What is the best way to measure the flow for my return pump from the sump to the tank? I tried filling up a 5 gallon jug with a stop watch then doing the math to get the GPH. That seemed to work but was wondering if there was a better or easier or more accurate way. Thanks.]

[Well, you could fill a bigger jug which would get you more precision. ;) But your doing it about the best way, unless you want to install a flow meter.]

[I saw a flow meter that you could attach to either tubing or PVC...but I can't remember where :very sad: . I'm not sure but it might have been MarineDepot.]

[I did my measurement the same way Jeff, execpt that I took 3 different readings and then took the average of those... but what you are doing is about the best way that I know ....

:D]

[I found a few flowmeters on the web, but they were more than I wanted to spend. The 5 gallon jug method seems to be fine for me. I just wanted to make sure I was flowing at least the minimum for my chiller. I tested it last night with a new mag and I was a couple hundred GPH over the minimum so I'm good. Thanks to all for the input.]
