I finally managed to get the GBTA out of my 72g. I have been trying for three days, with no luck. He was stuck to the foam back wall in the tank, so the credit card trick didn't work, ice cubes on his foot just made him suck further down into the crevice he was living in.
BUT, a powerhead aimed at his foot p*ssed him off badly enough that he wanted to walk away from me. He's captured and will be taking a ride to the frag swap tomorrow. He's a nice enough nem, but was getting way too close to my sps, and was starting to walk across the back of the tank again.
Ok, so I'm not going to put it in my resume that I am smarter than an anemone, but at least I finally won the battle
And my sps are safe now.
It only took about 10 minutes for him to completely release, with absolutely no damage to the foot at all. He's already stuck himself to the small rock I gave him in his jail cell (a large container with holes, floating in my sump, yes, it has a lid), and is starting to inflate again.
So, if you need to get a nem off of something, try pointing a small powerhead directly on his foot. It sure worked here.
