McCoskers Wrasse - Africa or Maldives

LiveAquaria carries McCoskers from Africa or Maldives. I've seen where some say that the Africa version is the more desirable. My LFS (Franks Tanks) also likes the African version more. Anyone have first hand knowledge of both? If I got one of each (males) would they battle? On a related note if I get males of different flasher species would they live together peacefully. I've read that males might battle or they might just flash more. I've got a 120g 4x2 tank. Thanks for any help.

I have the Maldives variety and prefer it.
You can absolutely keep different species of Flashers together. I keep a P. Mckoskeri and P. Filamentosa together in a 58 with zero trouble. There are several threads on reef central addressing wrasse ID and husbandry of said wrasses.
Please read this article from reef keeping by Dr. Tanaka (the worlds authority on reef safe wrasses).

Hope this helps!

Thank you Kelly. That article answers all my questions. Including pics of both varieties of McCoskers. I did not realize the colors intensified so much when flashing. I kinda thought they just extended their fins too show off the colors they had all the time. Now I know. If they flash to other male flasher wrasse species is there any reason to get the drabber females?

No sir, unless you just enjoy the idea of keeping a harem. Females are actually hard to find and almost as hard to identify as most look very similar.
Glad you enjoyed the article and please post here: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=91033 if you decide to buy any variety of wrasse.
