Maxima or Crocea - How do I tell?

I spotted this clam getting picked at by a Copper Banded Butterfly at Plano Pets and thought I better rescue it. All they knew there was that it is a "Blue Clam".

How do you tell the difference between the various types of clam and which one do you figure this one is?

I agree. Its a crocea. Maxima's have more defined ridges on the shell.

The ridges are called "scutes" Maximas have larger more apperant scutes, where the crocea's will have medium scutes when they are small, that will smooth out as they get older. Also croceas will have a symmetrical shell, where the maxima will have a asymmetrical shell(slightly pear shaped).

Also Croceas have huge gaping openings as in your case.
