Maxijets to magnet - Glueing/epoxying them works great

[Everyone always asks me about this and I actually saw the idea from RC but have never seen anywhere a step by step of how it's done so here goes.

I needed these for my new 92. I though about getting my own magnets but then I would have to coat them, etc. etc. It ended up being not time and cost feasible so here is how I did it.

Here are all the "ingredients"

Notice that I have already cut the nozzle off the maxijet because I'm going to use it on a wavemaker! So we have a medium mag float, a maxijet 1200, superglue gel, epoxy (you can use the expense stuff but this from HD works great. I use it all the time for frags), and some sandpaper.

So the first step is to sand both the magfloat and the maxijet where the two will meet. This allows the epoxy and glue to hold better.

Next take a small piece of the epoxy and knead it together into a uniform color. I have always had the best luck using super glue gel in conjuction with the epoxy. I've tried with just super glue and just epoxy and in my opinion both combined work much better. Just dab a couple drops of glue to both pieces where they will meet.

Then press the epoxy onto one side (I chose the maxijet but it really doesn't matter). Take the magnet and joint the two together. try to fill any crevices as that will help hold it. You want the two pieces close but not touching so a small layer of epoxy in between!

Your done. Here is the finished product. Let it dry for a couple hours and it's ready to go! I've had these in my 92 and moved them around and everything with no problem!

[Keith,
Do you think the magnet of the pump would be affected by the magnet in the mag float? Seems like it would screw up the magnetic field. Always wondered, even though tunze sells them for their streams. You could always just let the powerhead float around the tank on the magnet :) You would have some serious random flow!]

[I was concerned to but I've had them running like that for a week with no issues. I'm sure if you put a massive magnet on it might but these seem to be weak enough and the maxijets motor properly shielded enough that there is no issue. I think smllier has had them running like this for quite a while with no issues!]

[Another great DIY detailed post Keith! When you cut the nozzle off the maxi, did you cut it flush or did you make the outlet cut wider? What does the cutting do for the flow?]

[The impeller can spin in either direction on start up. The typical output nozzle on a maxijet is long so that the flow will be directed straight out the nozzle. When you shorten the nozzle it allows the output to kinda go in the direction of the spinning impeller. It comes out around a 45 degree angle. If you cycle the power on/off, the impeller will vary in the spin direction giving you a random flow pattern. I have mine on timers and cycle them on/off every couple hours.]

[What size magfloat do you think would work for a seio 820 or 1100?
Thanks
Ken]

[If you look at the stream magnet, they put the actual magnets far out to the sides to avoid that imo, which is why i'm stuck thinking up a way to mount them on the 180 with a 4" lip.]
