Maxi-jet inlet/output & DIY Kalk reactor

Anyone know what size pvc you use to connect a Maxi-jet? I have a MJ 600 that I want to use on a DIY Kalk Reactor. I looked at a few online plans, but I couldn't find the exact measurements and most of the plans called for parts to be ordered from US Plastics.

Thanks,
Chris

on mine, i used a short hose to connect the mj400 to a hose barb fitting on my reactor. i chose not to hard plumb the powerhead for ease of maintenance. the impellers on the mjs seem to require replacement on a periodic basis.

the od of the mj outlets are an odd size and also thin walled. i remember considering inserting and gluing the outlet into a 1/2" pvc fitting. Not a tight fit, but with a thick amount of glue, i think a seal can be made.

Thanks Howard. Do you have any pictures by any chance? I looked at a few plans online and I think that I can figure it out, but it's easier if someone knows exactly what parts are needed.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi
I would like to know too, or if any one know of a pump smaller than a mag 3 that is designed to be run in-line that would help too.

looked at the setup tonight. a little different than what i thought i remembered;

1) used plastic tubing from outlet of mj to barbed fitting on reactor
2) glued mj input nozzle after inserting into pvc plug:
- the pvc manifold is 1/2" pvc pipe.
- to connect the mj to the manifold, i took a 1/2" pvc plug and drilled a hole in from the end to match the o.d. of the mj input nozzle. the hole size is such that the mj nozzle slips snuggly into the drilled hole.
- glued the plug into the pipe manifold
- then glued mj nozzle into the plug's drilled hole

Thanks Howard, I think that makes sense. I'll have to fiddle w/ some parts when I get home tonight.

Someone on RC said that the dimensions of the mj600 are: input is 3/4" and the output is 1/2".

Lowes sells yellowish colored PVC. I believe its the 1/2" size that will fit the maxijet outlet perfect. You can then put a 1/2" threaded adapter on the end of his and fit it to any size PVS you need. No glue required.

Bring the output piece of the maxijet with you and see what you can fit together.

Thanks Mark. I think that yellowish PVC is called CPVC, perhaps? I'll take the mj with me and see if I can rig something up.
