Matt - I have some sick fish

Matt.

About a week or so ago we noticed some of our fish (blue tang (dori), 1 -damsel, and dragon golby) had what looked like a slight case of ick. I added a super skimmer, did a 15gal water change (55gal tank) and began adding store bought garlic&vitiman to the frozen brine shrimp I feed our fish. I also purchased a cleaner shrimp, a few more snails and a cleaner wrasser. We also added Purigen filter bag into the cannister filter.

Today, the cleaner wrasser died (we were told he wouldnt live long when we bought him) and our dragon golby died as well. The dragon golby looked like his eyes were glazed over somewhat for a few days before he died. He stopped sifting the sand about a week ago and was hiding in a cave in the rock and would only come out during feeding time. We also noticed that the blue tang may now be developing the same problem with her eyes. They dont appear to be popeye but may be getting a little cloudy.

Can you take a stab at what the problem may be and is there anything I can do to stop the spread? I do not have a QT. My tank is 3 months old and was cycling great. We noticed after the water change that the nitrates when up dispite our efforts not to disturb anything in the tank (rocks or sand) during the water change. We got the nitrates down to 10mgl within a day. The fish do not appear stressed (no noticable signs of them breathing heavy) and they are very active. The blue tang has been rubbing herself against rocks and other items in the tank since the day we got her from the LFS so we figured this was normal. She does let the cleaner shrimp and until today the cleaner wrasser clean her.

If you need any additional information please let me know.

I think I am getting ick from stressing out over my fish. These are mostly starter fish so I will not be too upset if we lose a few more of them.

Thanks,

I'm not Matt, but I would suggest you address this problem first

These are living creatures that deserve your respect and concern.

Tom,

I appreciate your comment. I think if you see some of my other posts and the attention to detail of my current issues you will see that I am concerned about my tank, if I weren't would I have joined this group to learn as much as I could to maintain my tank?

I really do appreciate your comment. It tells me that I am in the right place with others that take this hobby seriously.

Thanks,

If you have fish rubbing against rock or the sand, it could be ich, or even black ich (relatively invisible to our eyes).

To get the best help, we need you to post all your water parameters.

Test Kit: API complete test kit, and Instant Ocean Alk test kit.

CA 480
Alk 3
SG 1.018
PH 8.2
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10mgl
Amonia 0

Tested yesterday. I am already treating for ich as indicated in my post in the DFWMAS Members only section under "Nitrates after water change"

Thanks,
