Mangroves

I just recently sold my 150g system to a new member and moved my rock, fish, inverts…etc. to a new 120g system. I did this over a week ago and everything is doing great….except for my mangroves. They look wilted. I took a couple of cups of top sand from my 150g system and put into the refugium of the new system for them. This was a week ago yesterday. I’ve had the same light on them. They are not dropping their leaves or anything and the stalks appear to be strong. Do you think they’ll come through?

According to some sites, they are very unforgiving about changes in salinity. I'd just make sure the new system matches the old as closely as possible.

From my experience once you take established mangroves out of a system and try to plant them somewhere else they do not do well at all. Buds do fine but once those roots are established they don't handle change(up rooting and replanting) well at all. Maybe yours will bounce back, good luck!

Hmmm.

This is an interesting thread. I started a small mangrove in a plant container so I could move it. But it's outgrowing the container and getting high. I was thinking about transplanting it into the DSB. But now I'll have to double think that plan.

Maybe I'll just let it go for a while....until I do some more research.

Here's a pic of what they look like now

I had them in a DSB before. When I uprooted them I did notice alot of little feeder roots.....thousands. The bottom pic is of the system above. I tore down my 150g because of a move and put what I wanted to keep in this tank until I move. Everything is doing great and all parameters are good.
