majanos are taking over my tank

Lot different ways and everybody has there own combo that works. Here are some, peppermint shrimp may or may not eat them, joe's juice, inject with plain old vinegar, dab some kalk paste slury on them, cooperband butterfly....hardly live in most tanks, and my favorite and cheapest is boil some ro/di water and use big syringe with some small semi flexible airline tubing ,so you can manuver it in the direction you want and blast it with the hot water. Boil baby boil....lol It does work though. Just do a few at a time and dont over do it with some of the remedies or you may alter your ph too much. Best thing is to get them before they get out of control. Even if you have to take the rock out to operate on it...just dont keep a piece out water too long. Works good on smaller easy to get out pieces.

I have only used the hot water version and just thought it up one day and it worked well for me. One thing though it will make everything in the area the hot water touches die. Like your precious coral next to it so dont do that if thats whats next to it and your rock will turn white there for awhile ,kills coraline in that spot.....Sounds scary buts it easy. Might have to do a few times to completely kill those bad things no matter what concoction you use

How the heck do you get rid of them? majanos suck!!! said:
I had a major outbreak and tried everything that didn't involve injecting each one individually. Tried peppermints and a copperband but they only worked on the aiptasia. Also tried some 4eye butterflys but couldn't keep them alive. Then got a sawgrass filefish from another member and it wiped them out. Funny thing was I never actually saw it eat one. Just all of a sudden they were gone. One of the ugliest fish you could have but it does the job.

Some guys electrocute them. Here's a recent DIY project I saw posted on R.A. : http://www.reefaddicts.com/entry.php/780-my-version-of-trido-s-aptasia-burner

I just bought a "sawgrass" "seagrass"? file fish from the fish gallery. Wish me luck. If it works well I might be passing it.

Let us know how it goes. But if your experience is anything like mine, you'll never see it do anything then - poof! No more majanos!

Wow. I tore my 120 tank down because I couldn't get rid of them. In retrospect I would have put a couple racoon butterflys or auriga butterflys and hoped for the best. I was worried about my corals and clams, and my fish load was too much. But looking back, wish I had tried that before tearing it all down. What a nightmare that was. And that's another story...

Have the file fish picked on any corals or clams in your tank? I've heard of them nipping at acans and zoas and this was one reaon why I haven't tried one yet.

I don't keep any SPS or clams, but I didnt see any problems with any of my LPS or softies, but I did lose some zoas during the time I had the file fish. I was also having some water issues at the time (which had a lot to do with the majanos getting so out of hand) though so I'm not sure the file fish necessarily had anything to do with it since I'd lost some other zoas before as well. I never saw it actively eat anything other than the mysis I fed the other fish. It was all circumstantial evidence with the majanos. Before I got it, the majanos were spreading like wildfire and overtook a couple of nice candy cone colonies I had. After I got it the majanos were gone in about a week or two. The zoas disappeared also, but I'd also had zoas disappear before I got the filefish.

DON'T DO THE FILE FISH. He decide to become a Zoa eating file fish. He hasn't even finished off the mojanos. I am going to have to get him out of there.
