Majano Wand

I've been trying for quite a while to get rid of our majano/aiptasia problem with Joes/Aiptasia-X but nothing is seeming to work. Bought a CB Butterfly I still have in quarantine right now, just making sure she's healthy enough then going to put her in the DT to hopefully pick at a few. I know the only "real" answer is to take out the rock and dry it out and clean it, but thats not really an option for me. So, I pulled the trigger on the Majano Wand. I will update once I receive it on Monday how it works on my recurring majano and aiptasia problem. I know it will take numerous attempts at getting these little B@@@@@@s but I figure i'd give it a try.

Already tried filefish but that doesnt work out to well with my softies
Peppermint shrimp dont work out with my snowflake eel and hawkfish

ahhhhhhhhhhh

Nah, I've never done a water change post-zap. But I also do no more than 10-15 minutes per hour of zapping, per Paul's recommendation.

keep us updated. I checked and it is pricey if it does not work any better then the "juices" but if indeed it works great it is worth the cost for sure

Well, I got it in last night and used it for about 30 minutes on one infested rock. It seems to work fairly good as long as you can get to the base of these guys. I found that if you agitate the majano enough with the needle while "burning" them they will eventually release and you can basically skewer the little sucker and pull it out of the tank. I pulled out about 15 last night, and looked this morning and the one where I could not get fully to the base is back. I'm hoping he's a little agitated and loosened his hold on the rock and I can get him out when I get back home. Overall i'm pretty happy with the wand as I think it might help atleast CONTROL the problem, but not sure on 100% eradication. I'll try to post a pic of a before/after of the rock I am working on.

Well, here is a picture of the crazy infested rock. I'll upload the AFTER picture later this week to show how the wand worked.

And here is the pic of the same rock after a few hours with the wand. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the wand, but I quickly realized that I needed to take this rock out of the DT and into its own QT for me to "work" on it. I wasnt comfortable with the burned up pieces of majano this wand releases floating through my tank and watching my livestock eat it. The instructions say to only use this for 20 minutes for my 100 gallon, and that would have taken a month given it takes a good 5-10 minutes per majano. If you cant get to the base of these guys they WILL come back, but I found it pretty easy to remove them the second time around. Anyways, I did have to use some tweezers on some of the majanos once I got the rock in its own tank. I found it much easier to use the wand for a few minutes, irritating the majano and then tweezing them off. I probably removed closed to 75 of these guys in a few hours time. Of coarse, the next morning there were a few stragglers that were able to escape into some crevaces I could not reach, but i'm pretty happy in the results and not having to stare at these horrible, ugly critters on my great ledge rock. Feel free to ask any questions about this wand....

Two part answer: I personally think it was worth the price tag. As many majano's I have/had it would take a ton of chemical, and I didnt want to put that into my water either. Plus, i've never seen any chemical that works very well on majanos. Keep in mind, it will take (normally) atleast two sessions unless you can sneak up on these at their base and start zapping away. If you agitate enough they usually let go and you can skewer them and pull them out.

Siphoning would not be a bad idea, IF you have enough water made on hand. I did not. I eventually had my wife hold a net over the area I was working on and it seemed to catch quite a bit of the dead majano.

Hey b_waters I was thinking about getting one, would it be cool if I tried it out on some mushrooms to see if it works. I can trade a frag for your time.

I dont have a problem with that, but I will tell you I dont think it will work. I tested it out on a regular purple shroom that I have hundreds of and it basically just "slices" them up. It does not disenegrate the mushrooms.

Well worth a shot it will be a lot less heart breaking to find out it doesn't work borrowing one then dropping 100+ and then finding out.
