Mag pump

It has been done. I've done it myself, but it isn't recommended on any websites because they can leak.

so the only problem that it would cause is leakage? i'm thinking about this cause i think it is making my temp go up.

Yep. People tend to not like saltwater on their cabinet floor, or carpeting / tile. You could put a thin bead of silicone between the impellar cover and motor, but not too much or it may ooze into the area and stop the impellar from spinning freely.

Yep. Jeff got tired of getting complaints about leaky Mag pumps.

I have a mag 12 in my sump and no heat problems Do you have a fan blowing over the sump or the tank? I've never needed a chiler.

do you have any suggestions on another pump for my sump that does not put out so much heat? said:
The only mag I use now is to mix saltwater, even then if I put a cover over my saltwatert container the mag 12 heats the water to over 90*. I recommend Eheim pumps.

Cheers!

I had a Mag 3 then Mag 5 externally plumbed on my Seahorse tank for about a year - no problems. The only problem I ever had is if I cleaned it and then didn't quite get the seals set right, they'd leak. Easy fix though, I would took it apart and be a little more careful putting it back together again! :p

I have a Mag 12 on my 90 now plumbed in the sump and my tank is running a little warmer than I would like, and I only have PC lighting. My tank temperature hit almost 83.5 the other day with a fan blowing on the sump. I wired up my in hood fans that evening and that seems to have really helped. Yesterday I don't think the tank got over 80.8 which I consider very good since my A/C wasn't being super effective yesterday and the house temp was at about 77-78.

i looked at the Eheims and they seem to be putting out just as much if not more watts then the Mag. do they really run that much cooler?
