Mag 5 chatter??

I am using a mag 5 on my new tank for a closed loop, its tightly screwed to the tank stand side. I am sure that these pumps can be run dry out of the water. Every time that i power the closed loop up it starts to chatter, pump works fine and does throw micro bubbles into the tank. Its a brand new pump that i bought about a year ago and have only run it about 2hrs. total time. Since it has been about a year ago since i bought the pump i dont i will be able to return it and exchange it. I pulled the pump apart to day and everything seems fine on the inside of the pump. i tested it underwater and it still chattered?? Im lost, did i just get a bum pump, or am i missing something.
 
Make sure that the plastic piece that supports the impeller on the outlet side is not broken. I have the same problem and that is what is wrong with mine, getting a new pump tomorrow.
 
Thanks for the advice david. This is what i did, there are several small plastic washers that are seperate the impeller, i put both washers on one side and that stopped the chatter. It as quite as a mag will ever get!
