since you mentioned external..have you considered the Iwaki brand.. or its little brothers, Blue-line/Panworld.. we have used our panworld HD-40X for near a year now and no issues.. more quiet than my old iwaki 20... great little pumps
 
I agree if you are intending to run this pump externally there are much better and quieter pumps than the two you named.
 
You should look into running the blueline pump w/ a pair of penductors, that would help your display turnover by 3-4x.

Look at myreefcreations.com I think that he has them for $25 per penductor. KTH sales has them as well, but I think they sell eductors, which are a little larger, but they also put out a more difuse flow pattern.

Exactly. The eductor is larger and therefore has a larger bell opening, therefore creating a more difuse but equally as powerful flow pattern. I opted for the penductor, which is smaller and less of an eyesore in my 120. With your large tank, you may be able to look into at the eductors instead. I think that aquatic-eco systems has the eductors as well.

If you look on my thread here on DFWMAS you can see. I think that on the MRC site he has measurements, but they aren't that big, they can fit in the palm of your hand (penductors). The eductors are a little longer and skinnier.
