lost my powder brown tang

Well I new it when I bought him! I went to petco on friday and saw this very nice looking powder brown tang for 30bucks! He had ick and I kick myself for buying him now...well I thought I can quarantine him and hope he makes it!? Well today I get up to take a look at him and he is dead! :(

Lesson learned I guess?! I will not try to "nurse" expensive fishes anymore!

Jose: Sorry for your loss: That sounds like a pretty low price for this fish. Was the price reduced to $30.00 due to the fact the fish had Ich? I can't believe an LFS would sell a fish they knew was infected. I too always want to SAVE them, but I try hard to resist the urge. Buying a sick fish only encourages stores to sell them in this condition.

I don't think the price was reduced due to the fact that it had ick. In my experience Petco sells their fish fairly cheap. They had other fish like clowns etc etc for 16.99 and a niger trigger for like $20 somthing.

I know, I have to work big time on trying to "save" fish. I will try to not do that anymore! I couldn't resist buying this tang...the price was really cheap and other than the ick it looked pretty healthy. I thought about it several times before buying him. I left the fish area to buy other things i needed and temptation just brought me back to him!

Oh well lesson learned. I will try to risist myself from doing this in the future though.

I've done it as well, we all have. At least you QTed the fish. Imagine if you have had just added it to your reef. There is a discussion going on right now about this on another channel. You might want to add your two cents.

some stores have a hard time even keeping fish alive, you would probably have more success at a well known, reputable shop. if i bought a fish in that condition i would put it in QT too - no reason to infect the display, if it happens it happens, but adding an infected fish to a display would of course be a bad move. as is buying a fish that is sick from a store where the conditions are "less than desireable". common sense

Agreed.

If nothing more than to show the store that you won't support them selling sick and unkept specimen.

In that case, i'd love to take an opportunity to walk them thru a water test, salinity check, and other measures to see if they even know what their water params are...

Petco does have a guaranty of some kind. I would call them and tell them what happened. Speak to the Store Manager.

They have a fw fish guarantee. Only once did a recently "trained" person tell us that saltwater fish also had a guarantee, of course that fish died. After yelling at them for around 15min they went ahead and refunded us with a lot of effort on their part.
