Lost it all!

I did a water change, came home and a matter of three hours.....all my corals are dead. I don't know what happened, something toxic with my water? Damn this just really sucks, I am talking about all my crap that I have had for years! I saved it from the low mag crash.....this was quick! My water test great.....I am confused!

Not sure if this is an emergency anymore since everything is gone!

That is awful! I'm sorry to hear this. It sounds like something got in the mixed water.

Thanks Marc, you know I didn't think about it. My pump stopped in my mixing drum, I switched out pumps. I really don't know how long it stood without mixing, I hope my stupidity and laziness didn't do it! I am thankful I didn't do a water change in the 110. Edit....I used the same water last night to do a MINI change in my 110, no issues that I know of yet.

Stupid question, I dropped my candy canes onto my chalice field.....I saw that they looked mad, but can they release toxins into the water?

Yes, get those candy canes off the chalices because they will sting one another. Use eggcrate or something if you need to.

Did your fish die too?

Lost one fish, don't know how.....but the others seem to be ok. I did get the candy cane off immediately, I think they stung each other and that started this big mess.

Stagnant water is never good to use, so maybe that is what happened to you. Water in a sealed container has a shelf life as well, but mixed water needs to be circulating all the time or tossed out.

your pump stopped
what type was it i wonder if it released something nasty upon stopping
add a poly filter to the tank to make sure no nasties are left

Well, on the upside of things....my wife wont let me quit, so I am going to redo the entire set up (minus button polys this time), and do some different things! Gotta let this thing cycle out first.

Sorry to hear about your loss and I cannot really imagine how you must feel. Is it too late to test you tank water to see what might be wrong? This may help someone else.

I tested the water, I really don't know know what happened? My candy canes fell onto my chalices, they started releasing something when I picked it up and moved it. I am unsure if the canes had something to do with it or not. But the water tested fine, other than my mag was high, everything else was within pars.

I now know how people feel when they lose everything in their tanks, it is really a sickening feeling. Still 50/50 about getting rid of the tank.

So if I mix saltwater at home, I can't store it in the jugs until I need it? I mix my saltwater for 24 hrs before I store it.

I always mix my salt water 24 hours before using it and I don't see any reason why it cannot be stored in airtight jugs after mixing.

You didn't post much about your tank, so it is hard to have an educated guess about what went wrong. But it's already after the fact. I got most of my corals from the frag swap or free from members. Let me know if you want a few frags when you are ready again.
