Looks like ich

Ok , yesterday we discovered that nitrates were way high this was discovered about 4 pm at the lfs who did a test for us just like a week and a half ago everything then was supposibly normal ( I assume , yes I know what that means). The test yesterday nitrates were " extremely high" was the exact statement . Did a 30% change based on the lfs recomendation. Did that . Took til about 9 . Posted those results in the other post .Got home tonight from the meeting and we now have white dots all over the kleins butterfly . my wife is convinced its ich . I am trying to get a picture .

Thanks for the links ,it really helps to calm the wife down. This was an up and running tank when we bought it . The previous owner did say he had dealt with a bout of ich when he was showing me the uv sterilizer in the tub of misc part and non working items. I dismissed this as the ich was cured . I am now a little bit more informed and know this was probably not the case. In the last week my wife and I have added lots of rock , rearranged the rock and deep vacuumed during the water change , all things we have just learned add to the stress of the fish .
Going to do alot of garlic treatment to the food .And we have one cleaner shrimp , He was working on one of the gobies earlier(so cool to watch).

Cleaner Shrimp will NOT cure ich, nor will a UV sterilizer. Check out this thread: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=39647 There is alot of good info in the quarantine tank setup file regarding diseases and cures. Check this out. If you have the ability to setup a QT tank that would be ideal.

Ich cant be "cured". I have 2 cleaner shrimp in with my tang and it helps whenever a few "spots" show up. The best thing to do is to place fish into a QT and let the ich die off without anything to host on. It takes time (about 6 weeks) but it works!
