Looking for info on Dolomite for Magnesium supplement

Saw in an old post that people have been using Dolomite as a magnesium supplement in their calcium reactors; and that you can get this at garden stores.

Is there a particular brand of this stuff that will work best? Any worries of pesticides or anything else when getting from a garden store?

Any other info that would be valuable for me to know?

Sorry I do not know anyone that uses that method for keeping magnesium up. It is just too easy to dose it in other ways. I use the mag flake and epson salt mixture and just dose it when I see it getting a little low.

Looks like it was Keith that has used it (or knew someone who did):

I will PM him for some input here :)

Ya I haven't used it in about 18 months simply due to the fact that it's hard to find nowdays. Honestly I've used Reef Crystls for about a year now and haven't needed to dose much at all. Water changes keep it up nicely!

Cliff,
I looked for some dolomite for a long time. I've even got about 4 lbs. of different garden variety stuff in my garage. The stuff that I could find just didn't look right. I ended up buying some ZeoMg from Captive Oceans. I put the bag into my ca reactor and the mg has stayed steady at 1350-1400 ever since.

Figured they were in Germany, but just got an email response from them saying they are in the US. So ordered two kg's of it. Probably way too much...

Well, at least you saved in shipping costs. Do you know how much media your reactor holds? 10% is all that you need for the zeomg. FinsReef also has a Grotech brand. Same price, same product, different label.
