Looking for a pump with auto on/off

Who makes a pump that senses the back pressure on itself to turn off? And when this back pressure goes away, it turns itself on?

I am designing my water storage and delivery system and this type of pump would be handy, as all I'll need to do is put a small spigot at the sump/tank and open it to deliver water (or an ATO to do it). And have another one of these to drain water from the tank, by just opening an outside spigot and it will pull water from the sump/tank.

Found "on demand" pumps at Northern Tool. Might be able to use them, but would prefer something that runs on commercial power. All theirs run on 12vdc....

Not sure I fully understand what you're trying to do, but if this is going to be moving saltwater, you'd probably want to check with the manufacturer and see if it can handle corrosive material like saltwater...

Even stainless steel can't stand up to the corrosive effects of saltwater for extended periods...

Good point Serk. From what I can tell so far, the pump portion is made of a plastic material, but that does not tell me anything of the internals...

Great input!! I'll have to call them and check. And it will be used for both salt and fresh, from my storage barrels..

is this for your monthly water change

if it is just, use gravity if you are doing this to fill your sump. just place your top off pipe above the water line...then you can close it manually when full...

dont know how you would do the used sump water from the tank....only thing i would worry about is if it starts leaking or gets knock open accidentally ..it could possibly majority of the tank water depending on your setup on returns in your tank

My filtered water will be in the garage, stored in 55g barrels premixed, and all the filtration system and pressure pump will be mounted to 3/4 inch plywood fastened to the wall. Initially, and before I can get the plumbing work down from the storage barrels to the ATO(s), I want to just run a hose with a ball valve attached, to the tanks, where I can then have it available for water changes, top-off, etc. I need to pressurize this hose as the water will just not flow from the barrels in the garage, thru a 50-75 foot hose. I am looking for a pump that will only provide pressure for water flow thru the 50-75 foot hose "on-demand". Non on-demand pumps will just keep trying to pump and the back pressure will build to a point where it could damage the pump or leak at a fitting.

Once I am at the stage where I can operate this way, I will then plumb hoses direct to each tank's ATO, eliminating the need to run the 50-75 foot hose thru the house.

In the inverse direction, I will have another one of these "on-demad" pumps to do siphoning of water. But this will be one of the last pieces of the system. Right now, I plan on building a system that will provide premix from the barrels to the tanks thru the 50-75 hose.

Just an FYI, this system will be for both fresh and salt water tanks that I have (or plan to have in the future). Sounds ambitious I know, but beats having to wheel a 15g drums thru the house on a 2 wheel dolly, multiple times a week.
