[HI All, I am new to the board(love it) and new to the DFW area. I am looking to building a 180+ reef tank in my (new to me) house in Rockwall TX and need some recommendations on great LFS. I did a search and don't see any rate you local LFS posts so thought I post the question here. Right now I am flying back between Boston and Dallas but will be settled fully by the end of the month then I can get serious about the big(big to me) tank. :) . After seeing what your president did I am thinking more and more about building into a wall and going bigger than 180.

[One of the DFWMAS members has been kind enough to keep a LFS list updated on Marc's site.

"Great LFS" is somewhat subjective and depends greatly on what you're looking for.

Dallas North Aquarium is ok but pricey.

Saltwater Paradise has some wonderful corals.

Vincent @ Tranquil Scape does some fantastic looking custom work.

If you're looking for frags, check out 5th Day Aquatics

etc...etc...

I personally like Exotic Aquatics in Plano. The owner and his staff take the time to provide excellent customer service. I just bought a new tank through them and the first coral I bought (a frog spawn) was purchased there and is doing great.]

[I like to shop at Fish Paradise and PetOrama, both in Fort Worth's area.

Were you at MACNA? Are you from the BRS club? Welcome to the metroplex. :)]

[Gig em Ags. Hey Jumbo I was in the back getting water Sat. morning when you came in. Ramin was showing me his lighting setup for his 90. It is amazing how many DFWMAS members you run into during LFS visits.]

[Small world, Aint it Chris :grinning:

I'm surprised how much Ramin's got done on his canopy already with as little time as he has to work on it.

I'm having him drill and mount the fans into my new canopy. Partly b/c I'm lazy but mostly because he's done it on a few identical canopy's lately and knows exactly where to drill to get it right.

Gregory,
Looks like you have two votes for EA being a great LFS.]

[I really love the fish gallery, they always have some great corals .. sps, lps, and tons of softies.

I just recently visited Exotic Aquatics and the owner was awesome!!! He helped me pick out a healthy yellow tang and gave me some great tips on sps corals. :D]

[Can't wait to visit these shops. Thankyou for the posts and I will visit each of the ones recommended so far. (always find it hard to pass up new dive shops, aquarium shops, and used books stores :) ) Hi Marc, I currentlly am just a Boston Reefer online member and I missed the Boston show while trying to sell my New England Home. Just gave it over to a realtor and hope they sell it soon as I now have two-2 mortgages :( . Oh well. Really looking forward to being down south before old man winter hits.

I find LFS(local fish shops) are like LDS(local Dive shops) where they mostly praise what they have in inventory but once you get to know them some will special order you stuff you request at very similer prices to what you can find on-line plus shipping.

Thankyou all for the warm welcome and I am looking forward to meeting you all in the near future.]

[I am going to have to give another vote to Exotic Aquatics. On top of the customer service, they have got some beautiful fish that are well cared for. I got an awsome Volitan Lion the other day that they already had taking frozen food. And to top it off it wasn't a quick sell see ya later. One of the guys at the store (Taylor) would not let me leave without giving me som Lion basics (what to feed, what to do if I get stung etc) Great store.]
