FTS

I changed the stock pump for an MJ900, removed the false floor in chamber 1 and removed the bioballs and stock carbon filter. I currently have an MJ600 in the display for surface movement until I can get some locline and Y for the return.

Plans are to fill chamber 1 and 2 with rock and use 2 for fuge. I am trying to work out how to light it as I don't want to strip the back and maybe how to add sand.

I thought I killed it for sure when I mounted it to the rock it's attached to now.

I added about 5 lbs live rock with some cheato in chamber 2 and had placed a bag of sea gel on top of the drip tray. I also moved the heater to chamber 1 and pulled the mj600 when I did the last water change. I found a way to get at least decent water movement from the return. I am battling some algae issues now. Mostly I think from over feeding. So I've added 5 cerrith and 5 turbo snails. They seem to be doing a good job so far.

Hi,

Looking good, you may want to rethink the power head you removed(you can never have enough flow). You really need to get adequate flow across your sandbed(and throughout) to prevent food from settling in lil' pockets. This creates a nutrient build-up which will contribute to nuisance algae growth. You may want to also reduce the amount/frequency of feeding as well(reduce nutrients) as you mentioned. You can add a diverter(the name escapes me now) to the end of your PH and the water pressure from your PH makes it turn, which "spreads" it out more and gives ya a bit of random current when it collides with the output from the return. HTH

Cheers!
