Long Brown Hair Algea

I have some long hair algea that's getting worse. I turned the lights off for two days and nothing. Tried a sea urchin but it died. Please help. I've been told not to pull it, this will make it worse.

You should have left your lights off for 3 days. You need to change your water and get the nitrates lower and then you can use a product from API called Algeafix and that should get you going in the right direction. Remember though it will come right back if you dont keep your water paramaters in check.

If the hair algae is really bad, the options IME are very limited.
Clean RO water buckets.
Test RO water with TDS meter in the bucket that you are about to add salt.
Turn off lights - like mentioned above.
Remove sandbed.
Cook liverock.
Clean skimmer several time per week.
Keep Alk & PH levels up.
Run phosphate remover.
Feed fish less.

I feel your pain.
If you don't have much hair algae -
skip the cooking live rock and removing sand bed.
