Live Rock Vendors.

My tank has been over run with TX Trash Palys. Pruning is useless, because they grow back. Not to mention, despite gloves and goggles, I get sick. So I need to replace all my Live Rock. I'll need 90 - 100#'s. And I would like to keep it the total cost as low as possible. Can anyone recommend a good online possibly local vendor of Live Rock? I was looking at Live Aquaria, but have I've never purchased anything from them.

I know I'll need to cure any bulk orders of Live Rock. But once it is cured, I should be able to remove the current Live Rock and replace it with the new without a cycle, right?

Thanks,
Glenn

Bulk reef supply has some really nice macro rock. If I could do it all over again I would have done my whole tank with it.

Is that macrorock pretty good stuff? It seams really cheap and free shipping is crazy for the prices they r showing. And what size tank would 50lbs b right for?

Marco rocks or brs Eco rock is good stuff. Just FYI they are cheap as they are dead rock you usually you seed it with couple lbs of live rock

I would divide your tank size in half and start with that amount of marcorock, that may still be too much depending on how you aquascape.

Cheers,

I would do 1/2-3/4's to start with. They do free shipping, so if you need more it won't cost you extra to order a second batch.

The white rock is 115 lbs of Marco rock (75 lbs of key largo, 40 lbs of shelf) in my 120 gallon. I started with 90, and decided I wanted 25 more pounds, just took a few days for the next batch to get here, no big deal.

Couldnt you just sun bake your rock? or throw it in a bucket with tap and vinegar and let that run for a week or two?

They might be texas trash polyp but they cant live in vinegar.

Personally I would take the rock out and put it outside for a month. I had to do that to get rid of my hydroid problem. Its a month that your tank doesn't look good but its cheap.

Well, it is everywhere. It's even started growing small patches on some glass, sand and the overflow. And I have a fill load of fish. So, I'm pretty sure the tank would crash without any live rock.

I was thinking of replacing this rock and letting dry out and die. Then, if I ever upgrade to the 200G Deep Dimension tank, I'll be able to use it there with the rock in my current tank.

You might run the risk of crashing even with new live rock because it has a lot of die off.

I wonder if that new electronic majano zapper would kill them, it should. Maybe Marc could bring his over and try a couple.

Tim,

I had planned letting the new LR cure in a trash can. Not sure how long after all the parameters go to 0 I should move it. Probably right away because the bacteria #'s will be high to handle all the die waste from the die off.

I decided to try a Raccoon Butterfly. I moved some rock yesterday to make room for some Marcorock and cutdown on aggression. Well, a few hour later, I guess my Gobi hit a Sulfur Dioxide pocket. Don't know how he survived, but my Tang died. Hours after he passed, my Kleins died. I changed 15 gallons of water, ran the Luft air pump @ full power. This afternoon, I changed the another 10 gal of water and Carbon. The remaining fish are still alive and active. But my Monti has bleached.

It is or was a Green Cap Monti.
It looks like my Coral Beauty and the Gobi are gone to. I cann't find them. The 4 remaining fish are alive.
Water tests show NO2 @ .2ppm and NO3 @ 5ppm. Guess there was more die off than fish.

So, what is the best way to kill start killing these Palys? Should I order new 50# Marcorock and get it growing live in another container? Then replace the rock with the palys with this rock? Then I guess I would need to leave the Paly rock out for a few days. I asked DR Fenner about it last year, and he said to bleach it. Then let it air dry and re-cure it.

I've been fighing texas trash paly's myself. I've found that squishing them just releases thier slime which is harmful to many of the corals in my tank. I've lost just about all of my monitis. Frogspawn gets pissed for a few days then comes back. I took out one rock which was completely covered and scrubbed it with a corase bristle brush. I thought they were gone but are slowly coming back. Kalk paste works well, but you have to keep on top of it and do a little each day.
