Live Rock ??s

I recently found out I am being transferred to St. Louis, I am still trying to decide what to do with the 75g tank. I don't think moving it is an option as I'll be in a apt for a few months. Question is, once I remove live rock out of my tank. If I left it dry, and set up my tank down there...would it become live rock again eventually if I just have it in SW cycling? If so how long would you think it would take to come back alive, just don't really feel like spending all that money again on LR I already have. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated!!

thanks
Kelly

Agree with Matt. Sell it here and get some cash and provide someone else some cheap LR. If you want to go the dry rock route once you move you can do so for like $0.50 a lb when your ready.

ok, just wanted to get some opinions before I lost too much money on my LR...also one of the other reasons i was going to keep it is because my tank has a bad hair algae problem, figured I could scrub the rocks real good, Don't know how many people go for LR that has hair algae on it, but I have 100-125lbs so I have quite a bit to deal with. Thanks for the tips though....Any idea on how long it does usually take to get base rock going if I put it in my tank with developed LR?

Why don't you take it with you, and just keep it in a covered trashcan with a pump or powerheads, a heater, and a skimmer? You can do some water changes, "cooking" the liverock for a couple of months and it will be ready for your new system when you have the time and place. LR is so expensive, and to cook it in a trashcan is pretty simple.

Marc, that was an idea I was thinking about, but I will be selling my house here, and they are taking all my stuff to storage for 3 months while I'm in temp housing thats fully furnished....so I'm not really sure how I would move it or how I would keep it up. I am still trying to make up my mind, like you said it is soo expensive I hate to do it, but theres not a whole lot of options at this point.

You should be able to keep the trashcan full of rock no matter where you are.

ok, think I found a buddy that will keep it for me, can I get some of those tupperware rubbermaid type bins from walmart and use those? just put a powerhead and a heater? Thanks for the help, really didn't want to get new stuff!

Pumps or powerheads, heater, a skimmer would be nice, and water changes. When you do the water change, fill up a 5g bucket with the old water you are pulling out, shake the rock hard in that bucket to release all detritus, siphon out all the detritus in the bin(s), and replace the rock. Fill with new water.

The more you do this, the healthier the rock, the less detritus within, and the less GHA issues you'll have in the future. Plus that stuff will die if in total darkness.
