I removed all the sand and rock from my sump, and now I just want to return the rock, not the sand.

Any rule to how much rock you should put into a sump ?

as much as you can fit. There is no rule but just keep it clean and detritus free and you will be fine. said:
Yep.. only think I would add to that is add as much as you can without effecting the overflow/backflow ability of the sump or impede any equipment you have in it.

Just make sure when you shut everything off, you still don't overflow onto the floor.

Not a problem.

I have a high and low water mark on my sump. So I can tell relatively easily where my normal operating level is.

After I scrub the rock, I'll stick it back in the sump.
