Little Giant or Mag Drive.

Im getting back in the addiction after about 4 years and have a couple of questions. I used to have a little giant 4-MDQX-SC running my 92gal corner and I loved the performance with a SCWD but the only problem I had was the space the little giant took up in the corner stand. Would a Mag give me the performance im looking for, if so what size?

Thanks

the little giant Q series pumps will be more effective at moving water as they have what I will call a true impellor that has curved fins that create more flow and pressure where the MAG use a paddle type impellor.

but mag drive pumps are great pumps and can be used submersed or dry
another highly regarded pump would be an Ehiem

hard to say what size pump to use without knowing more about your desired setup such as tank size, desired flow rates, what if anything will the main pump be providing flow to ext.

i wouldnt go with mags personally, here are a couple videos you might be interested in

I am going to go back with the 92 corner reef ready. The pump will supply flow back to the main tank 5' from pump outlet to tank. I will be going with another SCWD. I guess the main thing I want is an internal pump for the fuge.

Thanks

Well, I figured I would pipe in, even though you have already made your decision. I use and like mag pumps, especially since I dont really have the space for an external pump in my stand. Mag pumps are less efficient, noisy? (i make silicone feet and I dont have that issue), and do put heat in the water.

As far as the heat is concerned, it has diminishing effects with large bodies of water, and I see it as less heater overhead. Yes, it could make the difference between a chiller or just fans, but I dont use MH lighting on my main tank... so I dont have heat issues.

Best part is, the Mag drive pumps have been bullet proof for me.

Now, if I needed seriously big flow, or had ample space, I would certainly go external.
