Okay here's my problem, I really want to upgrade my current lighting setup to include MH HQI. The problem is that I don't have a hood so I need a fixture, but I don't think I'll be able to use a fixture because of the odd shape of my tank. It's a 36 gallon flatback hex (pictures are included here). Solutions? I was thinking of getting an outer orbit or coralife hqi fixture w/ dual pc bulbs.
If I do that I'll have to hang them from the ceiling, but I'm a little nervous about the weight (I live an apartment and it will have to be installed in a drywall ceiling, the one with the little nipples everywhere.
Should I just get a hood and install a retrofit kit on it. At this point that seems like the best solution, but will it be more expensive then just buying a fixture and hanging it. Does anyone have a fixture such as I described above hanging over their tank. What do you guys think?
